Ruthie Lee Brownell

Ruthie Lee Brownell age 85, longtime resident of Gulf County, Florida passed away at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, March 31, 2024. She was born on May 26, 1938 to the late James Clifford Cain and Maudie Lee Pitts Cain. Ruthie lived in Taylor County, Florida before moving to Highland View. She worked at Gulf Pines Hospital as a Nurse’s Aid for many years. Ruthie was of the Holiness Faith, the secretary of the Gulf County Genealogy Society and an Election Poll Worker. She enjoyed sewing, genealogy, and cooking old recipes.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William “Buck” Brownell; stepson, Edwin Darrell Cooper, and one brother, Marcus Cain.


Mrs. Ruthie is survived by her children, Merita Pickron (Howard) of Greenwood, Florida, David Cooper (Linda) of Highland View, Florida, Cliff Cooper (Laurie) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Frances Ruis of Tallahassee, Florida; brothers, Carlton Cain (Annette) of Kinard, Florida, Marlin Cain of Kinard, Florida, and Albert Cain (Christine) of Port St. Joe, Florida; sister in law, Pat Cain of Blountstown, Florida; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.


A private family graveside service will be held at Cypress Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Kinard, Florida.


Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
