Alvin Charles King, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at Chipola Health and Rehabilitation in Marianna, Florida on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the age of 88. Born on December 1, 1936, in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, Alvin's life was marked by resilience, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
Throughout his life, Alvin undertook many professions and titles, showcasing his remarkable work ethic. He began his journey as a farm manager at the tender age of 14, stepping up to support his mother and siblings following the passing of his father. His adventurous spirit led him to work as a coal miner in West Virginia, and later, as a contractor in Lauderhill, Florida. He managed several tire stores and ultimately served as a Master Mechanic at Nissan in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where he dedicated many years until his retirement.
Alvin was highly intelligent, possessing a keen interest in history and geography, despite his education being cut short. He persevered, earning his GED and continuously feeding his curiosity about the world. He was known as the greatest storyteller—a talent that brought joy and laughter to those around him. Alvin loved deeply and was loved in return, a sentiment echoed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His hobbies were extraordinarily varied. He built and operated ham radios, raced dirt bikes and cars, and even flew small aircraft. An avid bass fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed cultivating various hybrid crops during his time as a farmer. Additionally, Alvin found great pleasure in deep-sea fishing and traveling, relishing the adventures life had to offer.
Alvin's proudest accomplishments revolved around his faith and family. He loved the Lord first and foremost, followed by his cherished wife and family. He is survived by his son, William Allen King; his daughters, Theresa Martinez of Marianna, Florida, and Lillian Legare of Chipley, Florida; his grandchildren, Javeed, Jessica (Rob), Amanda, Tim (Catherine), Rebekah, and Daniel; and great-grandchildren, Brendan, Levi, Rachel, Audie Joy, and Sophie. He is also survived by three brothers, Curtis King, David King, and Billy Nutter (Lori), as well as many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Edith Jane Townsend King and David Pierson King; his wife, Lillian Marie King; one son, David Arland King; one great-grandchild, Margaret Hope Legare; two brothers, James King and Oliver King; three sisters, Berdina Frisbie, Mildred Polk, and Pricilla Grose and two sister-in-laws, Karen King and Anna King
His legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering faith will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Alvin Charles King will be profoundly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
