Barbara Jane Mongold, lifelong native of Port St. Joe, Florida passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the age of 75. She was born on June 5, 1947 to the late E.B. Young and Gussie Lee Jones Young, grew up in the Oak Grove Community, and graduated from Port St. Joe High School in 1966. Barbara spent most of her life taking care of her husband and children as a homemaker. She cooked canned, and made jellies, but was best known for baking her amazing cakes that she would give to people in the community. Barbara was her children's biggest supporter and was always willing to participate in their endeavors. She was the greatest example of a loving mother, wife, and friend; always showing kindness, humbleness, and thankfulness. Barbara was a shining light even when times were hard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Bernice Young, John Young, Shirley Payne, Harry Young, and Larry Young.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Fred Mongold of Port St. Joe, Florida; three children, Alicia Mongold Walsingham and husband Quillon of Wausau, Florida; Teresa Jane Mongold Hurst and husband John of Wewahitchka, Florida; Frederick Lee Mongold “Buddy” and wife Kayla of Overstreet, Florida; three brothers, Ronnie Young, David Young (Marsha), and Donnie Mac Young (Carolyn) all of Port St. Joe, Florida; two sisters, Carol Besore of Port St. Joe, Florida and Peggy Jo Stripling of White City, Florida; six grand children, Alston Colby Mongold, Augusta “Gussie” Reed, Alexis Hurst, Chloe Hurst, Bailey Hurst, and Wyatt Edmond Hurst; three great grand children, Sophia Jayne Reed, Fletcher Reed, and Wilder Mongold.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. Eastern Time at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, Florida with Rev. Glenn Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. until 3:30 P.M. at Comforter Funeral Home on Friday, May 19, 2023.
