Betty Nelson

February 4, 1930 — October 11, 2022

Betty Nelson age 92 of Indian Pass, Florida passed away at her residence with her daughter at her side on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. She was born on February 4, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Arthur Hartmann and Jane Perry Hartmann. Betty moved to Simi Valley, California where she spent a large portion of her life before becoming a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada. She lived in Las Vegas for thirty years and then made her way to Indian Pass, Florida to live with her daughter, Dolores for the past five years. Betty was an extraordinary chef for over 45 years and had the pleasure of cooking for actors, musicians, and also the Dallas Cowboys. Betty enjoyed many fishing trips to Mexico and Hawaii with her late husband. She also enjoyed country music especially Ray Price and The White Saddle Band. She did tai chi daily and was a prolific painter with many oil paintings

given to friends and family. Betty looked forward to visiting family in Chicago where she would indulge in Chicago Pizza and Chicago Hotdogs. Ms. Betty relaxed in the evenings watching “Jeopardy” and sharing a sip of Amaretto with her grandson Sean and grand dog, Izzy.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur H. Nelson; two brothers, Ronald Hartmann and Arthur Hartmann; sister, Lois Torres; niece, Joan Baconcelli; grandson Adam Skraucevs and son in law, Peter Skraucevs.



Ms. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Dolores Conroy of Indian Pass, Florida and Denise Skraucevs of West Allis, Wisconsin and son Rich Nelson and wife Denise of Lake Zurich, Illinois; five grandchildren, Sean Conroy, Summer Bush, Jess Curry, Leah Loing, and Dereck Skraucevs. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.


A celebration of life will follow at the beach house at Indian Pass Florida and a second celebration of life in Chicago with relatives.


Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, FL.
