Charles "Chuck" Gleason Allen

May 9, 1942 — February 19, 2024

Charles “Chuck” Gleason Allen of Port St. Joe, Florida, formerly of Jasper, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up in Mobile, Alabama. Chuck graduated from Murphy High School in 1960, and upon graduation attended the University of Alabama, where he majored in education. After college he began a forty year career in education, earning two masters and specialist degrees from the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia. Chuck lived twenty plus years in DeKalb County, Georgia, then moved to Dalton, Georgia where he taught, coached, and was a principal. Even after retirement Chuck stayed involved with the students and schools by working as the North Georgia Director with FCA, continuing as the principal of Christian Heritage School in Dalton, and eventually returning to public schools as a teacher, assistant principal, and coach in both Pickens County and Hall County Georgia.

Chuck was a die-hard Alabama fan, believing in the school so much that he named two different K-9 companions “Bama”. Before and after every Alabama football game, he and his brothers would chat on the phone about game plans and review the results, joking that they should be consulted before the next game.

Chuck and his wife, Carolyn, moved to Port St. Joe in 2021. He was an avid golfer and a member of the St. Joseph Bay Country Club. Chuck loved his family and often bragged about the accomplishments of his sons and grandsons. He cherished every moment spent with them. Chuck was also a very dedicated church member and lay-leader, helping to plant churches and serving for many years in leadership roles in the churches where he belonged.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, R.H. Allen and Hazel Oglesby Allen, as well as his step-granddaughter Jordan Honeycutt.

Chuck is survived by his precious wife of fifty-five years, Carolyn Allen of Port St. Joe, Florida; two sons, Pete Allen (Celita) of Port St. Joe, Florida, and Bobby Allen (Jessica) of Tampa, Florida; two brothers, Dick Allen (Betty) of Fairhope, Alabama, and Ronnie Allen (Grace) of Spanish Fort, Alabama, as well as three grandchildren, Chip Allen (Brittany), Judah Allen, and River Allen, along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Chuck’s memory to the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society, or to your local humane society.
