In Loving Memory of Big D: David Paul Davis


David Paul Davis, affectionately known as Big D, was born on March 5, 1971, to Helen Marie Davis and Paul Davis in Port St Joe, Florida. He was called home on March 5, 2024 to spend his birthday with his mother in heaven.


He dedicated half of his life to youth sports in Port St Joe, leaving an indelible mark on the community. Big D's passion for coaching was unmatched, and he served as the head coach of the Jaguar football team for Gene Raffield football for 24 years. Under his guidance, numerous young athletes flourished both on and off the field. Beyond football, Big D also coached girl’s softball during his daughter's upbringing, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to coach his granddaughter, Brielle.


For 17 years, Big D worked diligently at Thompson Caterpillar, where he was known as a committed and dedicated employee. He always led by example, being the first one through the doors every day. He always said that if he was right on time, he considered himself late.


Big D's love for his three children, as well as his bonus kids, knew no bounds. He cherished every moment spent with them, and his unwavering support and guidance shaped their lives. He was always the biggest champion for his children and always made them a priority.


His impact extended beyond his immediate family, as he cared deeply for every child he ever coached, leaving a lasting impression on their lives.


Thirteen years ago, Big D met his beloved wife, Hilary. With her, he found his soulmate, and they shared a love that knew no bounds. Their journey together was filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering companionship as they traveled together on countless adventures.


Big D's legacy will forever be remembered in the hearts of those he touched. He leaves behind a community grateful for his dedication, a family who adored him, and a lasting impact on the lives of countless young athletes. May his spirit live on, inspiring others to pursue their dreams with passion and love.


Rest in peace, Big D. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will forever be cherished.


David was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Helen Marie Davis, and his favorite cousins, Lee Tuttle, Shelley Walding, and Michael Garrett.


David is survived by his wife Hilary Patterson, his children Ashton Davis (Kwarmaine Bailey), David Davis Jr (Allie Nelson), Weston Edwards, and grand daughter, Brielle Davis.


He is also survived by his father Paul Davis (Bertha Davis), his brother William Davis, Mother of his Children, Elizabeth Davis, along with his children’s siblings, Aydan Davis, Anniston Gainer, Brenton Riley and Brelynn Riley.


He is survived by several beloved aunts, uncles, two sister n laws and brother n law, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.


Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Port St. Joe High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery.

A time of visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
