Ed Frank McFarland, long-time resident of Port St. Joe, joined his Heavenly Father Friday, March 18, 2022, at the age of 94. He was born October 10, 1927, in the Frink community of Calhoun County to parents Peter Matthew and Lilly Stockwell McFarland. After graduating high school, Ed moved to Port St. Joe to help his uncle and aunt (Captain Fred and Zola Maddox) run cattle along the peninsula and “cowboyed” for Uncle Fred until he got a position working at the papermill. Eventually, he trained as an electrician and remained at the mill in Port St. Joe, retiring after 43 years. Ed joined the First Baptist Church soon after arriving, met and married Peggy Wise, and raised his five children in the community. Ed Frank was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, Christian, and church member. He remained an active member of the community and his church for around 76 years, joining local Masonic lodge #111, serving as a little league baseball coach, teaching Sunday School classes, singing in the church choir, driving for the Inspirations senior choir, and serving as a deacon of First Baptist Church for more than fifty years. He and his wife chaperoned band trips, attended countless ballgames all over the state, and traveled as long as they were able. He also enjoyed farming, fishing, and hunting. Ed is preceded in death by his wife Peggy (married 63 years), parents, infant sister Juanita, sister Iris McFarland Holt, sister Virginia McFarland Newsome, son Larry Charles McFarland, and infant great grandson Hunter Daniel Hitt. Survivors include sons Edward Matthew (Diane) McFarland and Duane (Susie) McFarland, daughters Julane McFarland Pettis and Cathy McFarland (Gregg) Pierce, one sister, Eunice McFarland Hill of Kinard, thirteen grandchildren (Jason, Danielle, Aubrey, Alison, Lindsey, Cody, Kenny, Anna, Ryan, Cameron, Chelsea, Cori, and Jesse), and twenty great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 5:00 pm EST Monday, March 21, 2022, under the pavilion in Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, with Pastor Boyd Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 5:00 EST. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Hospice for use in the Panama City/Port St. Joe area. Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida
