In Loving Memory of Erika Adam
March 27, 1936 – December 29, 2024
Erika Adam, affectionately known as "Oma," passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 27, 1936, in Hollstadt, Germany, Erika lived a remarkable life shaped by resilience, devotion, and love.
As a child growing up in Germany during World War II, Erika faced challenges that forged her strength and determination. In 1956, she courageously emigrated to the United States, settling on Long Island, New York. There, she began her life anew, working as a nanny and housekeeper. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Herbert Adam. The couple married on July 19, 1959, embarking on a beautiful journey together.
The Adams moved to Edison, New Jersey, on New Year's Eve of 1959, where they raised their family before retiring to Florida in 1986. Erika and Herbert shared 50 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on July 22, 2009, just three days after celebrating their golden anniversary.
In 2011, Erika moved to Port St. Joe, Florida, to live with her daughter and family, embracing her role as a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a constant presence in the lives of her loved ones, delighting in the joy of her grandchildren. Erika cherished her time gardening, knitting with friends, and driving her grandsons to and from school. Her nurturing spirit, warmth, and lively conversations made her a beloved figure to all who knew her. She was also a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port St. Joe.
Erika is survived by her daughter, Caryn Adam Reid, and son-in-law, William Reid, of Port St. Joe, Florida; and her two grandsons, Kyle William Reid of Brandon, Florida, and Eric Adam Reid of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by her son, Curt Adam, and daughter-in-law, Joanne Weber Adam, of Somerset, New Jersey; their two sons, Alec Adam of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Zackary Adam of Somerset, New Jersey; and her great-grandson, Parker Adam, son of Alec Adam.
Erika’s legacy of love, strength, and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be remembered for her gentle touch, her hearty laughter, and the countless memories she created with those she cherished most.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday March 29th at 10 am eastern time.
Rest in peace, dear Oma. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida
