Mother Essie B. Hall, affectionately known as “Madear”, was the sixth child of nine siblings,
born on October 13, 1925 to the marriage of John Wesley Shine and Rilla Snow-Shine in
Dallas County, Selma, Alabama.
Mother Essie B. Hall, cradled in the arms of Almighty God who makes no mistake, she gained her wings and peacefully transitioned from earth's labor to her eternal reward on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 with her family and friends by her side.
Mother Essie B. Hall’s journey begin in Proverb 3:6 "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path." She was raised in a Christian home, taught love, kindness and respect. She received her Christian training at an early age in their family church, "Old Town Baptist Church" in Selma, Alabama. She was educated in the Dallas County School System. She worked tirelessly on various jobs where she met and married in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Leslie Hall in Selma, Alabama. To this marriage five children were born. After her husband became employed with St. Joe Paper Company, the family relocated to Port St. Joe, Florida. She continued her Christian journey by becoming a member and inspiring her family as well to join Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Reverend C.P. Price. She attended worship service and served faithfully in choir #1 and sung one of her favorite songs that may well have been her testimony "Search Me Lord" until her health failed her. Mother Essie B. Hall was a diligent worker and entrepreneur. She became employed as a domestic worker, Homemaker, self-owned beautician and later honorable retired as a cafeteria worker from the Gulf County School System. Her legacy of love, kindness and respect that she demonstrated will forever be in the hearts of her former co-workers, and all the children she served food to at Washington High/Elementary and Highland View Elementary Schools.
Mother Essie is preceded in death by, her husband, Leslie Hall and her siblings, Robert Shine, Ceola Page, Leola Hardy, Estella Hardy, Luerilla Shine, James Shine, and John Shine.
The fragrance of her sweet memories she leaves to celebrate her life are her children, Eugene Hall and Willie Hall of Jacksonville, Florida, Maggie Epps of Tallahassee, Florida, Valencia (Joe) Foxworth of Port St. Joe, Florida, Leslie C. Hall of Sacramento, California; sister, Angie Robinson of Selma, Alabama; brother-in-law, Mack Hall of Port St. Joe, Florida; sister-in-laws, Annie Sue Fields of Port St. Joe, Florida and Army Jane Mitchell of Wilmington, North Carolina; eighteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren as well as a host of loving and sorrowful nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
She is now resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father.
