Frederick "Fred" Buck Sawyer

June 16, 1935 — November 26, 2024

Apalachicola, Florida

Frederick "Fred" Buck Sawyer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Apalachicola, Florida, on November 26, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on June 16, 1935, in the same town that would embrace him throughout his life, Fred was a devoted member of the community and a cherished presence among family and friends.

Fred dedicated 32 years of his life to the Florida Power Corporation, starting at the bottom and ascending to the esteemed role of Transmission Construction and Maintenance Manager. His work ethic and commitment were unparalleled; he was a man who believed in the value of hard work and persistence. In addition to his professional achievements, Fred proudly served in the National Guard, further showcasing his dedication to his country and community.

A man of many talents, Fred was not only a skilled craftsman in boat building but also an accomplished hunter and fisherman. He possessed a remarkable ability to throw a cast net with precision, and he was known for his exceptional marksmanship. These hobbies were not just pastimes for Fred; they were intricately tied to the love and joy he found in nature and the great outdoors.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Rita Patterson Sawyer, who stood by him through all the years filled with laughter, challenges, and adventures. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters: Dana Littlefield and her husband Byron Littlefield of Adairsville, Georgia, and Debra Weller of Thomasville, Georgia. Fred’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren—Christopher Sawyer Littlefield and his wife Naomi, Lena Caitlin Littlefield, William Frederick Littlefield and his wife Lauren, and Savannah Lynn Weller—as well as his great-grandchildren, Sawyer Aiden Littlefield, Maddox Anthony Littlefield, Wyatt Buck Littlefield, and Brooklyn and Lily Chancey.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick Sawyer Jr. and Doris Ladona Buck Sawyer, who laid the foundation for the values Fred held dear throughout his life.

Fred's legacy is one marked not only by his accomplishments and dedication to work and family but by the warmth and love he radiated. He leaves behind a tapestry of memories woven from countless moments spent fishing by the shore, laughter shared over family gatherings, and the unconditional love he extended to everyone who knew him. As we remember Fred, we celebrate a life well-lived, a father, husband, and friend who will forever be missed but never forgotten.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
