James Leo Cary of Lynn Haven, Florida, more affectionately known as Jim passed away on Saturday,
May 6, 2023 at the age of 71. He was born in Binghamton, New York to the late Leo and Marion Cary.
Jim attended University of North Carolina, then got his Physician’s Assistant Degree at Wake Forest
University. After college, Jim began his career as a Physician’s Assistant in the US Air Force and
received the Air Force PA of the year. During that time, he went on to get a master’s degree in Public
Health. Afterwards Jim worked in many health care facilities, including many years at Bay Medical
Center’s Emergency Department and Panama City Urology Center. His passion was his working with
patients and attending to their needs. Jim went on to be active in the Florida Academy of Physicians
Assistant, holding many advisory positions including president.
He was a steadfast member of Lynn Haven Methodist Church and served in many different capacities;
Sunday School teacher, Methodist Men’s group, “Hardly Able” Wheelchair builder’s crew, Honduras
medical mission team. Jim had a servant’s heart and was the frequently the first to volunteer for
additional needs. He loved walking, riding bikes, golfing, cutting grass and traveling.
Jim was a die hard Alabama fan “Roll Tide Roll” and a North Carolina basketball fan.
Jim deeply loved his family and friends. He was always quick to smile and made a lasting imprint on
so many people’s lives.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-two years, Rebecca Hall-Cary of Lynn Haven, Florida; four
children, Barrett Cary (Cristi), Jamie Ruth Hitch (Bryan), Brad Cary (Lauchlan), all of Birmingham,
Alabama and Jacob Hall (Mari Chris) of Wewahitchka, Florida; one brother, Tom Cary (Rose) of
Elizabethton, Tennessee; one sister, Susan Beaupied (Greg) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; four
grandchildren, Elena Maria Cary, Ben Bryan Hitch IV, Bowen Wilson Hitch, and Liam Demesa Hall.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Lynn Haven Methodist
Church beginning at 3:00 P.M. Central Time with Pastor Terry Tatum officiating. A time of visitation
will precede the service and will begin at 2:00 P.M. Central Time. Interment will be at Roberts
Cemetery in Wewahitchka, Florida beginning at 5:00 P.M. Central Time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jim's memory to the Lynn Haven Methodist
"Mission Fund" (3203 Minnesota Ave, Panama City, Florida 32405)
