John Edmond Young

John E. Young, lifelong resident of Port St. Joe, Florida passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the age of 90. He was born on November 30, 1931 to the late E.B. Young and Gussie Lee Jones Young. John was a veteran of the United States Navy where he proudly served his country during the Korean War as a diver. After his service, John became a fatty acid operator at Sylvachem Chemical Plant where he spent more than 30 years before retiring. As a member of Long Avenue Baptist Church, he loved serving on the greeter ministry where he could freely give hugs and handshakes to all. He was a true outdoorsman who spent his free time hunting and fishing. John also enjoyed good food, watching westerns and college football. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 58 years, Myrtice Young; one son, Randy Smith; four siblings, Bernice Young, Shirley Payne, Harry Young, and Larry Young. John is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Young Dean and husband Danny of Greenville, Alabama and Sandra Lamberson and her husband Scott of Port St. Joe, Florida; three brothers, Ronnie Young, Donnie Mac Young (Carolyn), and David Young (Marsha), all of Port St. Joe, Florida; three sisters, Carol Besore, Peggy Jo Stripling (Lavon), and Barbara Mongold (Fred), all of Port St. Joe, Florida. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A military graveside service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. under the pavilion at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, Florida with Rev. Danny Dean and Pastor Eli Prine officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of John can be made to the Children’s Ministry at Long Avenue Baptist Church (1601 Long Ave, Port St Joe, FL 32456) or to the Gideon’s International (P.O. Box 140800 Nashville, TN 37214-0800). Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, FL.
