Larry Glen Whitfield, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and a military veteran, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the age of 86 in Port St. Joe, Florida. Born on August 22, 1938, in White Bluff, Tennessee, Larry's life was marked by his commitment to his family, service to his country, and a long-standing professional career.
Larry served his country honorably in the Army for 21 years, achieving the esteemed rank of Master Sergeant. His military service was a source of great pride, shaping his principles and instilling in him a strong sense of duty and responsibility.
Following his distinguished service, Larry spent 24 years employed by the Corps of Engineers, where he worked as a hydroelectric power plant operator.
Beyond his professional achievements, Larry was a man of many passions. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and helping others in need, yet he believed that his greatest purpose in life was to care for and provide for his family. Larry's unwavering support and love left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Else Whitfield, with whom he shared 63 loving years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Danny Whitfield (Deniah), David Whitfield (Tina), and Dianna Calhoun (Donald). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Caleb Whitfield (Kristen), Harley Whitfield, Sara Whitfield (Chase), and adopted grandchild Jing Yang (Yang Ruan), as well as his adopted great-grandchildren, Edward Ruan and Emrick Ruan.
Larry Glen Whitfield will be remembered for his integrity, dedication, and immense love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide his loved ones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. Eastern Time at the pavilion located in Holly Hill Cemetery with military honors.
