Laura Jean Taylor

Laura Jean Taylor passed away on November 9, 2022 to be with her Lord and Savior, her husband, family and friends. Laura’s passing was exactly 18 years from the day that her husband, the Reverend Oliver Taylor passed away. While attending the First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe, she was active in the United Methodist Women’s Group, The Pridgeon-Rish Sunday School class, The Choir and the Care Closet. Laura was born in Miami, Florida on December 23, 1928 to Idell and James T. West.

Laura, a beloved mother, is survived by son Clifford Alan Taylor (Romaine); daughter Karen Sue Hansen (Corky) and son Kenneth Thomas Taylor (Susan). She is also survived by five grandchildren Jason Alan Taylor (Dina); Heather Louise Howell (Shane) and Christian Taylor; Sarah Cipollina (Carlo),and Matthew Taylor (Sarah); and ten great-grandchildren Jason Taylor, Jr., Rose Taylor, and Benjamin Taylor; Logan Howell, Olivia Howell; Giovanni Cipollina, Ariana Cipollina, Leonardo Cipollina; and Kaia Taylor and Dominic Taylor.

There is no easy way to adequately describe Laura, because her wisdom, kindness, patience, attentiveness to family, dear friends and strangers was so self-evident. She was always available to help anyone and truly worried and prayed for all in need. Even in her semi-conscious state while bedridden, she worried about strangers and those that she knew. Many have said and her husband often admitted, he would never made it through college or seminary without her help. She typed and edited his papers, quizzed him in Greek vocabulary and supported him and his assigned churches in every need in

the twelve churches they served together.

The following poem found in Laura’s Bible best describes her and her attitude towards life:

Drinking From the Saucer

I’ve never made a fortune,

And I’ll never make one now,

But it really doesn’t matter

Cause I’m happy anyhow.

As I go along my journey

I’m reaping better than I’ve sowed.

I’m drinking from the saucer

Cause my cup has overflowed.

I don’t have a lot of riches,

And sometimes the going’s tough

But while I’ve got my kids to love me

I think I’m rich enough.

I’ll just thank god for the blessings

That his mercy has bestowed.

If you give me strength and courage,

When the way grows steep and rough,

I’ll not ask for other blessings,

I’m already blest enough.

May I never be too busy

To help bear another’s load,

Then, I’ll be drinking from the saucer

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Port St. Joe, Florida with Rev. Dave Barkalow officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, Florida.
