After a lifetime spent serving as a mother to over a 100 children, all while raising her two loving sons and the daughter she always wanted, the town of Wewahitchka lost the godliest of women on January 17, 2023.
Lisa Jensen Combs, age 67, was born on November 13, 1955 in Buffalo, New York to Robert and Alice Jensen. She graduated from St. Petersburg Junior College with an Associates Degree as a veterinarian tech and later went back to finish a degree in Early Childhood Education. Later in her career, she taught at North Florida Child Development, working for 10 years as a preschool teacher. During this time, she also served as a houseparent and mother to over 100 children who lived at the Taunton Family Children’s Home. As their “mom,” Lisa provided unconditional love and support to all who lived under her roof.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Orin Combs, two sons, Dustin and Ryan Combs, a daughter, Alexa Allison Hall, two daughter-in-laws, Renee Combs and Becky Meredith Combs, a son-in-law, Austin Hall, and siblings, Bobby, Billy, and Susie. She was also “memaw” to her four grandkids, Nathan, Payton, Maddie, Matthew, and McCoy, each of which were her pride and joy! She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alice Jensen.
Lisa had the gift of seeing the good in every person. She never gave up on a child, no matter how frustrated she may have been. Lisa was easy going, but held fast to her faith. She believed in teaching the kids about God and spent countless hours educating them through sign language and mimes. Helping those in need was her passion.
She was a caring mom, wife, but most of all “memaw!” Her grandchildren were the key to her heart and she never turned down an opportunity to spend time with them, especially if it meant having a holiday party. Christmas and Halloween were her favorite holidays and a mediocre celebration was not an option in her book. She made sure her home was decorated to the max! At Halloween, she always had a spooky story for the kids followed by a spooky hayride through the woods. You could always count on her “Christmas Eve” box full of goodies and matching pajamas and you better take a family picture or you did not receive the real Christmas presents. She brought life to every holiday through her joy. This extravagant, godly woman will be missed by all but her legacy will be carried on through the love she gave us all.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 21, at 3pm CST with visitation beginning at 2pm. Visitation and the celebration of life will be held at Honeyville Methodist Church.
Cory Moore of Taunton Family Children’s Home will officiate the ceremony and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Lisa Combs’ life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Taunton Family Children's Home at P.O. Box 870, Wewahitchka, FL 32465.
