Lucius "Pete" Peterson

Apalachicola, Florida

Lucius Peterson, more affectionately known as "Pete", age 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at his residence in Apalachicola, Florida. He was born on November 2, 1934 to Cleveland Grover Peterson and Estella Godbolt Peterson in the Money Bayou area of Gulf County, Florida.

Lucius retired from Apalachicola Northern Railroad in 1997 after forty years of faithful service. He enjoyed working on cars and being a mechanic.  This hobby brought him in contact with many people that would become life long friends and loved ones. Lucius was Baptized in 1976 as on of Jehovah's Witnesses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Estella Peterson; one daughter, Larcella Peterson brothers, James, Richard, Marion, and Cleveland Jr.; sisters, Annie Mae Curry, Irene Peterson, Minnie Lee (Willie Lee) Clark,  and Dorothy (Herman) Williams .

Lucius leaves to cherish his memories; a wife of thirty years, Jeanette Cargill Peterson; daughter, Toni Lynn (Mitchell) Patterson of Hilliard, Ohio; stepchildren, William (Lavetres) Cargill Sr. of Havana, Florida; Shantia (Anthony Carr Jr.) of Acworth, Georgia, Andrew Booker III of Atlanta, Georgia, Joi Cargill of Tallahassee, Florida, Cha-mia (Clarence Devon Williams IV) pf Silvas, Illinois, and Katherine Dewalt who he accepted into his home and lovingly raised to adulthood. Lucius has 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and a God daughter, Lisa Cummings (Alvin) and a sister, Rosa Custer. Special to his heart was his sister Mary Alice (Roy Lee) Williams of Port St. Joe, Florida, special niece Virginia Davis of Columbia, SC, special nephews, Clayvro Pop Clark (Cynthia) of Apalachicola, Florida, Larry Clark (Hattie) of St. Mary's, Georgia, Paul Bankston (Carla) of Apalachicola, Florida; special grand kids, Christina Cooper, Capri Cargill, LaTeesa Taylor, Seraiah Owens; devoted friends, Larry Joseph and William Key and good friends, Joseph Kellogg and Walter Robinson; two favorite sisters in law, Jocelyn Maxwell and Frances Falona, both of West Palm Beach, Florida.

A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola, Florida on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11 A.M. Eastern Time with visitation beginning at 10 A.M. Eastern Time.

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
