Michael Anthony James

October 22, 1963 — October 24, 2022

Michael Anthony James, more affectionately known as Mike or Buff, age 59 of St. Joe Beach, Florida passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. He was born on October 22, 1963 at Tyndall Airforce Base to the late John James Jr. and Frances Chumney James. Michael spent his childhood and young adulthood in Apalachicola, Florida where he looked forward to castnetting, fishing, and hanging out at the 10ft Hole. Michael was of the Catholic faith, a member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid FSU fan. He worked for the railroad for fourteen years and then became a police officer. Michael worked for Apalachicola and Port St. Joe Police Departments for over 10 years, where he loved being out in the community, especially with the kids. In his later years, he enjoyed reading, listening to music, watching classics on T.V. like The Andy Griffith Show, and reminiscing with his friends about the good ol days in Apalachicola. Michael loved his family and the time spent watching his three sons grow up.


He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Demetris James; mother in law, Charlsey King; his bestfriend and niece,

Bridget Nicole Scott.


Michael is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Missy James of St. Joe Beach, Florida; three sons, Christopher James of St. Joe Beach, Florida, Matthew James (Lucy) of Everett, Washington and Nicholas James of St. Joe Beach, Florida and one sister Jessica Stokes (Jimmy) of Apalachicola, Florida. As well as a host of Nieces and Nephews that will miss him greatly. He is also survived by many lifelong friends, but 2 very special ones, Milton Houseman and Dale Nabors.


Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Eastern Time on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola, Florida with Pastor Jeff Strickland officiating.


The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time until 7:00 P.M. Eastern Time at the First Baptist Church of Apalachicola.


Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Franklin County Friends of the Library (P.O. Box 722, Eastpoint, Florida 32328)
