Miriam B. Dismuke

Miriam B. Dismuke age 85 of Port St. Joe, Florida passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 in Panama City, Florida. She was born in Elba, Alabama on January 15, 1937 to the late Jim Mack Dismuke and Winifred Dyess Dismuke. Miriam graduated from Auburn University “WAR EAGLE” with a Bachelors Degree. While attending college, she opened the first Dairy Queen located across the street from the Auburn Campus. At one time, Miss Miriam owned seven Dairy Queen stores in the surrounding area. In 1961, after graduation, she moved to Port St. Joe where she took a Physical Education and Science teacher position at the local high school. Miriam was involved in many school activities such as, cheerleader sponsor, Jr.-Sr. class sponsor, while attending many of the athletic functions. She loved her “young un’s”, as she referred to so many times. Miriam was a certified Physical Education and Biology teacher and worked for 30 years before retiring. She enjoyed fishing, working crossword puzzles, being in her yard, and watching football games on tv. One of her favorite past times was visiting with people. Miriam treasured good conversation and others company. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Melba D. Hudson. Miriam is survived by one nephew, Brandon Oakes; one niece, Wendi Oakes; one great-nephew, Tanner Oakes, and one great-great niece, Ella K. Oakes. She is also survived by Carol Dixon who loved her, who took care of her for many years and was like the daughter she never had. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Comforter Funeral Home on Monday, February 14, 2022. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Brundidge, Alabama at 3:00 P.M. Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, FL.
