Nellie M. Smith was born on February 20, 1940, in Wewahitchka Florida, and remained a beloved fixture in her hometown until her peaceful passing on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the age of 84. With a heart full of love and a spirit that brightened the lives of all around her, Nellie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, cherishing each moment spent with her family and friends.

For 65 beautiful years, she shared a loving marriage with her husband, Wes Smith. Their union was a testament to enduring love, filled with shared laughter, unwavering support, and countless cherished memories. Together, they nurtured a family that blossomed under their care.

Nellie was the proud mother of three children: Trina Horne and her husband Bill, John Smith and his wife Sheryl, and Teri Nichols and her husband Eddie. Each of her children carried forward her legacy of compassion and kindness, and she relished every opportunity to watch them grow and flourish. Her devotion extended to her cherished grandchildren—Amber McKnight (Rusty), Wesley Smith (Heather), Joshua Smith (ReShae), Cameron Horne, Jordan Smith (Kassidy), Wyatt Nichols, Kristen Nichols, Kimber Nichols, and River Rollins. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, filling her life with joy, laughter, and pride. She was also a doting great-grandmother to Trent Miller, Chloe McKnight, Mason McKnight, Autumn, Lily, and Jackson Smith, Harper Smith, and Violet Mae Smith, whose smiles brought her untold happiness.

Nellie’s life was rich with interests that brought her joy. She had a passion for shopping at Hobby Lobby and any thrift store—spending her afternoons hunting for treasures was one of her favorite pastimes. Those who journeyed through life alongside her will fondly remember her warm laugh and infectious spirit that lit up the simplest moments.

As a dedicated homemaker, Bible class teacher, and member of the Church of Christ, Nellie’s proudest accomplishments were rooted in her family and faith. She nurtured her children and grandchildren with love, imparting wisdom and values that will echo through generations. Her legacy is built upon a foundation of faith and service that touched many lives, inviting all to feel the warmth of her embrace and the strength of her love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Annie Weeks, her brother Edward Weeks, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wesley and Arta Smith. Nellie leaves behind her beloved husband, Wes, and a vibrant family who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. She is survived by her brother, Robert Weeks, and sister-in-law, Barbara Weeks, along with countless friends who were fortunate enough to know her gentle spirit.
