Orlis Luell Burton

Orlis Luell Burton, age 81 of St Petersburg, Florida passed from this life on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 8:15 a.m. Orlis was born April 20, 1942 in Monticello, Kentucky to Rufus and Versa Hughes Burton. Orlis was employed by the Franklin County School District, Apalachicola, Florida, from 1964 until his retirement in 1994. Most of his working years were spent at Apalachicola High School where he taught chemistry, physics, biology and general science classes. Orlis married Shearor Fay Creamer December 25, 1969 in Apalachicola, Florida. They resided at Magnolia Bluff in Eastpoint, Florida and were members of the First Baptist Church of Apalachicola and the First Baptist Church of St George Island.

In 1997, they moved to Langston, Alabama where Orlis served as a member of the Langston Volunteer Fire Department. Orlis and Fay were members of Randall's Chapel Methodist Church of Scottsboro, Alabama. Each year prior to Thanksgiving, the Burtons hosted a community turkey fry where Orlis and friends, Larry VanMeter and Gary Bass fried turkey breasts while the wives, Fay, Anna and Glenda made gumbo and sides for all.

In 2007, Orlis and Fay built a home in Monroe, Tennessee and resided there until 2020. Orlis enjoyed fishing and gardening, but his favorite times were those spent with family. Monroe, Tennessee was a short drive from Orlis' hometown of Monticello, Kentucky, and there were many Burton family cookouts and get togethers in both Monroe and Monticello. The Burtons were members of Byrdstown, Tennessee Methodist Church, and their home was the location for many annual Sunday School Christmas parties.

Orlis was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Versa, his brothers, Edsel, Denzil and Orman, his sisters, Kathleen and Merita.

Orlis leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Fay, brothers, Donovan and Darrell as well as many friends and family.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. Eastern Time on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the Eastpoint, Florida Cemetery with Rev. Scotty Lolly officiating.

Comforter Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements for the services.

A Luncheon to celebrate Orlis's life will be held for family and friends at Family Coastal Restaurant following the interment service.
