Peyton Wilkin Lane

March 18, 1965 — January 7, 2023

Peyton Wilkin Lane, beloved colleague, friend, cousin, aunt, niece, sister, daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, died Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the age of 57. She was born in Atlanta on March 18, 1965, to Haidee “Prissy” Bolton Wilkin and Peter Lawson Wilkin, Sr.

Peyton grew up in a musical family, and excelled at piano and clarinet as a child. She graduated from an accelerated college-credit program at Miller County High School in Colquitt, Georgia, then attended University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She married and raised her family in Colquitt, living and working there until moving to Port St. Joe, Florida, in 2022.

For many years she worked with her parents to run their iconic family store in Colquitt, and later worked with her husband in his accounting business. It was in patient advocacy, however, that she found her true calling, and she spent the last two decades helping patients navigate the healthcare system and get the support and information they needed to pay for medical care. She loved helping people, and often spoke of how rewarding this work was for her.

Peyton loved family, animals, and the beach. She could often be found with friends, family, and Boops the dog at her favorite spot on Cape San Blas, Florida. “Pey-Pey” reveled in being a grandmother and doted on her grandson. She was a deeply loyal friend, and stayed in touch with family members close and far.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John David Lane, Sr.

Peyton is survived by her children, John David (Aileen Garcia) Lane, Jr., of Oklahoma City, OK, and Wilkin Ryan (Alexandra Scott) Lane of Port St. Joe, FL; her grandson, Eli Ryan Lane; her brother, Peter Lawson (Allison Graves) Wilkin, Jr., of Birmingham, AL; a sister-in-law, Jan Lane Luquire of Columbus, GA; her mother, Haidee “Prissy” Bolton Wilkin, and father, Peter Lawson Wilkin, Sr. She is also survived by her many cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as her sweet Boops and Mimi the cat.

A sunset memorial gathering will be held at 5 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, January 21, 2023, on the beach opposite William J. Rish Park on Cape San Blas, Florida.

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, FL.
