Ruth Elouise Griffin

September 22, 1930 — March 7, 2024

Ruth Elouise Griffin age 93 of Port St. Joe, Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 7, 2024. She was born in the “Sand Hills” of Washington County, Florida on September 22, 1930 to the late Georgia Sapp Syfrett and Robert Syfrett. Ruth was the youngest of ten daughters and spent her childhood on the small family farm doing household chores and playing underneath the shade of the big oak trees. In 1943, Ruth met her husband-to-be, Buford Griffin and they began dating. Buford was drafted into the Army during WWII and was sent to Germany. During this time they continued courting by mail until he was discharged in 1946. The two were joined in holy matrimony in Dothan, Alabama on March 10, 1947. The next day they moved to Gulf County where they have resided ever since. Over the years, Mrs. Ruth worked at the White Spot Drive-In, Campbell’s Drugs, West Florida Gas, Tidewater Construction,Danley’s Furniture, and St. Joseph Telephone Company where she remained for twenty-eight years until her retirement in 1993. She was an active member of Oak Grove Assembly of God most of her life where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing in a quartet. Ruth was an excellent cook and loved maintaining her beautiful yards. She enjoyed square dancing and traveling with her husband in their motorhome. Her greatest joy in life was spoiling her husband and spending time with her family.


She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Michael Griffin and nine sisters.


Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of seventy-seven years, Buford Griffin( WWII Veteran) of Port St. Joe, Florida; two daughters, Wyvonne Griffin Dixon (Steve) and Sylvia Juanise Griffin all of Port St. Joe, Florida and two grandchildren, John “JJ” Joseph Hathaway of Panama City, Florida and Casie Juanise West (Adriane “Layth”) of Port St. Joe, Florida.


Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, Florida with Pastor Dave Fernandez officiating.


Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
