Shirley Gunn Lightcap

Shirley Mae Gunn Lightcap, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully after a day of cake and games on March 17th, 2022. She was born January 31, 1929 to John and Jessie Warren in West Elizabeth, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sons John Edward Cline, Jerry Gunn, David Gunn; husbands, Ollie Gunn Sr. and Howard Lightcap, and grandson Joseph David Gunn. She is survived by two sisters whom she dearly loved, Katherine Nagy and Patricia Bryant. She was the mother of 11 children, some born to her and others she chose to love as her own. Her surviving children are Marion Cline Melton, George (Beth) Cline, Mary (Sean) Carden, Ed (Lola) Cline, Warren (Faye) Cline, Jesse (Pam) Cline, Shirley (Jimmy) Thompson, and Ollie (Susan) Gunn. She leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild whom she loved to spoil and cuddle with. After raising her family and helping her husband build a successful business, she became a devoted healthcare worker where she showered her patients with loving care. Upon retirement, she moved to Georgia for several years before returning to Apalachicola where she loved to sit at the pavilions on St. George Island and watch the waves roll in. In her later years when her mind failed her, she never lost her quick wit and loving touches. She always lit up when her children and grandchildren came to visit. She will be deeply missed by her entire family who invite you to celebrate her life with them on Tuesday, March 22nd at 1:30 in the afternoon at Fellowship Baptist Church in Apalachicola. Family will accept visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola, Florida next to beloved Ollie. Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, FL.
