Stephanie (Stevie) Rae Hoopes Renna of Port St. Joe, Florida passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the age of 68. She was born in Rivera, California on January 10, 1956 to the late Thomas Charles Hoopes and Shirley Mae Kelly. During her childhood, Stephanie lived in California, Ohio, and Florida. In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she met the love of her life at age 16. In 1983, the now family of 5 moved to Dublin, GA. While in Dublin, Stephanie ran PSI Temporaries, a profitable temporary service. Upon leaving PSI Temporaries, she worked as the Executive Director of the Heart of Georgia United Way. In 2001, they moved to the Atlanta area where she began working for the Centers of Disease Control as a Program Management Analyst and was often promoted due to her skills. In December of 2023, she retired from her final position as a Management and Operations Specialist.
She began vacationing in the Destin and Port St. Joe area with her late husband, Joe. They had dreamed of eventually living in the area. Sadly, Joe passed away unexpectedly in 2008. After his passing, she found love again with David Twining. They enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Murphy, North Carolina and visiting Port St. Joe. They loved the area so much that they bought a home here and became full-time residents.
Stephanie enjoyed shopping, reading, and flower gardening. She spent countless hours on her back porch reading and bird watching. Above all, Stephanie’s family was the center of her world and she cherished every second spent with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of thirty-four years, Joseph John Renna.
Stephanie is survived by her life partner of sixteen years, David Warren Twining of Port St. Joe, Florida, her three children, Jennifer Renna Hingsbergen (Todd Allen Hingsbergen) of Port St. Joe, Florida, Jamilyn Renna Brookins (Michael Shane Brookins) of Port St. Joe, Florida, and T.J. Renna (Ann Grossniklaus) of Braselton, Georgia; two sisters, Kimberly Kay Magill of Beloit, Ohio and Deannea Dale Hoopes-Johnson (Drew Brunie) of Sebring, Ohio; seven beautiful grandchildren, Madison Mae Hingsbergen, Caleb Joseph Hingsbergen, Carolina Joelle Brookins, Joseph James Renna, Owen Thomas Renna, Luke Edwin Renna, and Noelle Anne Renna.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port St. Joe, Florida on Saturday, August 31, 2024 beginning at 2:00 P.M. Eastern Time. Following the service, everyone is invited to celebrate the life of Stephanie with good food and fellowship at one of her favorite places, The Port Inn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port St. Joe Garden Club (P.O. Box 243, Port St. Joe, FL. 32457) The garden club does many projects to beautify the town she loved so dearly. The funds will be used to add a garden bench and flowers in her memory.
