Steve Dwayne Gibson

November 4, 1971 — June 22, 2023

Steve “Stevie G” Dwayne Gibson was born on November 4, 1971 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He went to be with God on June 22, 2023 in Pensacola, Florida. In 1978, he moved to Port St. Joe with his family where he would happily spend the rest of his days in the very place he loved. PSJ was so special to him that he wrote a song called, “St. Joe Is A Friend Of Mine”. Fishing, boating, and the beautiful beaches were his greatest treasures. Steve loved to make people laugh most of all. He enjoyed singing, writing music and letters, drawing, performing, and expressing himself freely. He was unbelievably talented, intelligent, and was known as a “jack of all trades”. Painting, carpentry, and fishing were just a few things that he excelled in. In high school, Steve was also known as “MC Stevie G”. He liked to DJ, fire up pep-rallies, play football, and perform in the local parades. His bright and comical personality kept people laughing. He graduated from Port St. Joe High School in 1990 and furthered his education at Gulf Coast State College. Steve adored his daughter Savannah whom he called his “Little Stevie G”. She was his life and heart. They bonded through music, art, writing, and astrology. Steve was in the Marine Corps from 1993-1995 with his final rank being Lance Corporal before being honorably discharged. He earned a National Defense Service Medal as well as a Rifle Expert Badge. Steve touched the lives of many and created many smiles with his positivity and his fun, unique, and silly personality. He will be greatly missed by many. Steve was known as the loving and protective big brother. There is nothing that he wouldn’t do for his siblings. He loved all of them very much; Richard Gibson, Yolanda Miller, Tracy Yowell, the late Buddy Wood, Michael Wood, Tammy Griffin, and Tina Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert Harvey Gibson and Annie Sue Whitten; one brother; maternal grandparents, Ruby Bell and Jake Whitten.

Steve is survived by one daughter, Savannah Gibson of Wewahitchka, Florida; six siblings; nieces and nephews, Millie Ann Carpenter, Ryan Lewis, Janelle Lewis, Karen Lewis, Hedi Lewis, Tony Yowell, Sean Yowell, Michael Griffin, Kelvin Griffin, Mary Gibson, and Kadin Ward Wood.
