Wanda Joann Peterson, age 85 of Wewahitchka, Florida passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Illinois on October 12, 1936 to the late Charles Earnest Payne and Flossie Bernice Briggs Payne. Wanda spent many years in Illinois before moving to Gulf County in the 1980’s. She attended Dalkeith Baptist Church where she was famous for her potato salad, along with her tomato juice that she fixed for Jimmy while he was suffering from cancer. Wanda will also be remembered for her German chocolate cakes, and mac n cheese. She enjoyed fishing, ceramics, canning, making homemade jams and pickles, Her greatest love was butterflies. She was preceded in death by her parents. Wanda is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Willard Sterling Peterson; one daughter, Brenda Peterson; two sons, Jeff and Eric Peterson; one sister, Linda McDonald; four grandchildren, Andrew O’Barr, Kimberley McArdle, Jennifer Whitfield and Noah Peterson; one great-grandson, Joseph Whitfield and “Cricket”, her poodle of fourteen years. The family would like to thank Covenant Care Hospice for their amazing care and compassion they showed during this difficult time. No services are planned at this time, memorialization will be by cremation. Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, FL.
