William J. Herring, Jr., "Bill" or "Billfish", age 72, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025. 

He was predeceased by his Father, W.J. Herring, Sr. and his Mother, Sarah Martin Herring of Port St. Joe, FL. 

Bill is survived by his son, Jason Herring, wife Darcy and their sons, Bradley and Tyler, his son Jeremy, wife Kalista and their sons, Liam and Wesley, along with the mother of his children Jean Moss Herring and husband Ron Price, all of Ontario, Canada. Bill is further survived by his sister, Sarah C. Herring Harper of Gulf County.

Bill grew up in Port St. Joe, FL, graduating in 1971 from Port St. Joe High School where he developed many lifelong friendships. After graduation, Bill began exploring, living in Mexico Beach, Apalachicola, Toronto, Canada, River Sink, FL, and the Florida Keys, ultimately choosing Howard Creek as his home. He could usually be found on or around the water, be it St. Joe Bay, the Gulf, or the River, indulging in his love of fishing inherited from his Father. Or you might find him picking his guitar on the porch.

Bill's work life was also varied. He worked in both residential and commercial construction, as a cowboy, a commercial fisherman, a charter boat mate, and a sawmill owner, prior to his early retirement.

A memorial service for Bill will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Holly Hill Cemetery Pavilion, Port St. Joe, FL. Visitation will begin at 2:30 pm EDT with the service to follow at 3:00 pm EDT conducted by Reverend Billy Rich.

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
