William Eli Fortune, affectionately known as Billy, was born on July 11, 1973, in Marianna, Florida. He passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 in Alford, Florida, surrounded by his loving family.
Billy was a cherished individual who touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving an incredible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. Facing significant challenges throughout his life, including the loss of his mother at the tender age of 16, he exhibited remarkable resilience and lived his life to the best of ability.
In his youth, Billy found joy in playing soccer and later embraced the thrill of roller skating, often surprising others with his agility. He cherished the simple pleasures in life, such as listening to music around a campfire and often serenading his family and friends. One of his favorite songs was "Traveling Soldier," which reflected his deep appreciation for music and connection with others.
Billy’s legacy will be carried on by his devoted family. He is survived by three sisters: Roberta Pippin and her husband Willie of Alford, Penny Bunce and her husband David of Chipley, and Cheryl Beth Fortune and her fiancé Jeff of Alford. He also leaves behind one brother, Bob Baxla, Jr. of Alford, along with four nieces—Caitlyn Fortune, Elizabeth Whitehead, Tabitha Golden, and Rebecca Goodman—and four nephews—Christopher Freeman, Jesse Freeman, Jeremy Golden, and Joe Goodman. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his ex, Dakota (Michelle) Keen; stepdaughter Trisha (Sissy) Franke; and David Franke, as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and grandchildren.
Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Nell Fortune; his father, Bobby Shiver Fortune; and his grandparents. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever miss his infectious spirit and love.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 2:00 PM Central Time at Round Lake Cemetery in Alford, Florida with Pastor Garry Barnes officiating.
